We’ll be open between 10am and 4pm on Sat 12, Sun 13, Sat 19, Sun 20 December and then between Mon 21 and Wed 23 December inclusive for you to make an outdoor-only visit. Admission will be £5 per adult, with children aged 15 and under enjoying free entry. All current UnChained Passholders and BCLM Members can also visit for free. Tickets and timeslots must be pre-booked before your visit - bookings will be open soon.

Please find our response to frequently asked questions including about visiting our Museum, ticketing and Membership.

When will the Museum re-open?

The Museum will remain temporarily closed until further notice, but we do intend to re-open pre-Christmas with an alternative daytime visit and we'll publish an update on this as soon as possible.

How do I book?

Please ensure that you pre-book your timeslot and selected date before you arrive at the Museum. You can do this by going to our ticketing site and selecting your chosen date and time. Tickets for our dates in December will be £5 per adult, and children under 15 can visit for free.

UnChained Passholders and BCLM Members can visit for free, however you will still need to pre-book.

I've already made a booking for December, what do I do now?

If you have booked a slot to visit during December, and would like to re-arrange your visit date, please get in touch via or 0121 520 8054. Please note that any new UnChained pass will be valid for 12 months from the first date you visit.

How do I visit?

As the Museum is located in a current Tier 3 area, you must adhere to the Rule of Six when you visit.  As we’re an outdoor heritage site, you can visit us as a mixed household group of up to 6 people, but you must maintain social distancing between people who are not from your household.  Single households/support bubbles of more than 6 people can visit us when we’re open in December.  Please do remind yourself of the government’s advice on Tier 3 restrictions which you can find here:

What facilities will be open?

We will have several takeaway food and drink outlets open, including our famous Hobbs Fish & Chip shop. There will be toilet facilities available, and our Museum gift shop will be open. Parking at the Museum car park will be free for all visitors who book to visit us in December.

Will there be historic transport available?

We’re currently unable to operate our historic transport, however if you require our disabled access vehicle this will still be available for use by one household at a time. Please speak to our friendly staff if this something you will require use of on your visit.  You can also contact our Sales & Ticketing team on 0121 520 8054, or in advance of your booking if you’re likely to require accessible transport on your visit.

Can I go into historic buildings?

No.  In line with Government guidance for Tier 3 areas, indoor areas of the Museum will remain closed (with the exception of our admissions building and facilities). Historic buildings will remain closed to the public, including the Bottle and Glass Inn.

Unfortunately, as part of our adapted offer for outdoor opening we’re unable to make our costumed characters available for visitors to meet in December. However, if you have any questions during your visit please speak to one of our friendly uniformed stewards who will be happy to help.

What will happen to my existing Membership and UnChained Pass during the closure?

When the museum re-opens you will be able to use your UnChained Pass/Membership as normal. All passes are valid from the date of your first visit.

Please note that we will not be extending UnChained Passes or Memberships for this period.

Can I bring my dog?

Only guide dogs, assistance dogs and animals under the Museum's management and care are allowed into the Museum.

What happens if I, or someone I'm about to visit with, show symptoms of Covid-19?

If you have been specifically asked to self-isolate or someone you’re visiting with shows symptoms of Covid-19, please do not attempt to visit.   If you develop symptoms during your visit, we ask that you end your visit immediately and observe social distancing.

I have tickets for Enchanted Christmas - how do I obtain a refund or donate the cost of my ticket?

If you’ve purchased a ticket for our Enchanted Christmas event, you have two options:

1) Request a refund

You can obtain a refund on your ticket by calling our Sales & Ticketing team on 0121 520 8054 – Monday - Friday (10am-4pm). Please bear in mind that we may not be able to meet our usual response times during this period, but we will do our best to get back to you.

2) Support us by donating the cost of your ticket

If you are able to, you can donate the cost of your ticket to the Museum. We are more than 90% reliant on visitor income and anything you can do to support us during this difficult time would be very much appreciated. If you'd like to donate, please call our team on 0121 520 8054. Alternatively, you can email us at, but please note that in some instances we may have to call you to complete your donation.
