The Friends of Black Country Museum

The Friends were the driving force behind the formation of the Black Country Living Museum in the 1970s.

Since then they have supported us by collecting exhibits, manning displays, promoting the Museum, organising events and making donations.

Some of their activities include:

  • Arranging the services in the Museum Chapel
  • Organising Living History Weekends
  • Guiding and demonstrating
  • Giving talks to other groups and organisations..
  • Assisting the Museum with it's Promotional Tour and Community Outreach

The Friends meet monthly throughout the year for a programme of talks, walks and visits to other local attractions and places of interest.

Margaret, Friends of Black Country Museum Volunteer talks about her time here at BCLM

/media/support/library/margaretvolunteer-custom.jpg"We wanted something very different (to do), we joined the Friends of the Museum and became volunteers... It's given me more confidence than what I did have... I would recommend being a volunteer with the Friends of the Museum as it's very rewarding, I enjoy it and it's worthwhile."

Hear more from volunteer Margaret, about her story and experiences as a volunteer at BCLM on the video below
