Newcomen Engine Receives Engineering Heritage Award

Newcomen Award

09 November 2012

On Friday 9 November the Museum's replica Newcomen engine was awarded the prestigious Institution of Mechanical Engineers’ Engineering Heritage Award.

David Eveleigh Director of Collections, Learning and Reasearch said;

‘We are very proud that the Institution of Mechanical Engineers have chosen to make this award. Our engine now joins a select group of British engineering achievements which have been given this coveted award – including Tower Bridge and the Vulcan Bomber - and at the same time it highlights the full significance to the Black Country of Thomas Newcomen’s invention and of the educational value of our working reconstruction.’

Pictured (L-R) are: John H Hughes, Chairman, Black Country Living Museum Trust, John Allen, past President of The Newcomen Society and John Wood, Chairman, Institution of Mechanical Engineers' Heritage Committee.
