Locksmiths House Success

lsh yard

15 April 2013

Thanks to the Collections Team and Collections Volunteers, the Locksmith's House is now sparkling clean! Last Thursday the house, yard and workshop got a good spring clean: the fires were /media/news/library/130416_230_grubby_hands.jpgcleaned out, grates were black leaded (see very grubby hands picture), weeds were pulled from the yard, shelves were dusted and the shop counter was given a good going over with bees wax.

On Friday, when we hosted a sold out open afternoon event, 25 lucky people got a tour of the house and a demonstration in the workshop, followed by tea and cake. Just so all you foodies know, we tucked into Victoria Sponge cake and chocolate cake - a lovely reward for us after our hard day spring cleaning and I think our visitors enjoyed it too! If you missed out on this event, the House is open again in September. Have a look at our 'Whats On' section to find out more.

Today on the first sunny work day of the year, the Assistant Curator has managed to spend all day down in the basement workshop. No, we didn't lock her in there; she has been accessioning some new objects. Keep your eyes peeled in our 'New Stuff' section to see what she's been up to.
