Brand New Curators Blog

Hobby Shed

09 April 2013

Welcome to our brand new 'Curators Blog' where we (the Collections Team) will keep you up to date on everything collections related.

This week we are mostly working on moving the 'Hobby Shed' - a shed that was once used for engineering odd jobs. It is currently located at the back of Doo's Chemist and will be relocated to the rear of Old Birmingham Road. The shed dates back to 1937 so its removal to the the rear of the 1930s street makes sense. All the small tools and other oddities have to be removed first, then we can remove the larger tools, the pillar drill and lathe. It's hoped that when the shed is moved some of the machinery will be demonstrated.

Today we have also taken in some printing blocks from a chemist Bannister & Thatcher who had branches in Walsall and West Bromwich. The acquisition will provide a good record of the products that the chemist sold and we may be able to use some of the printing blocks in our Print Shop.
