Boats with Becky

28 April 2015

/media/news/library/150428_230_wet.jpgWell its been a busy old time down on the boat dock and I haven't had a minute to spare... I've been joined by new staff and volunteer helpers and we are getting underway with the projects I've had in mind for a while.

With the new group on board we've painted a couple of the benches, Steve's been doing the hard graft with the rubbing down, undercoating and putting a final coat of nice bright boaty coloured paint - and Tracey is dab hand at the painted decoration, she's been working to develop her own style of this traditional folk art. Volunteer Maggie has been keeping us all organised and we have finally started clearing out the bottom of our horse drawn boat Diamond and rejuvenating the exhibit.

I've managed to get in a bit of wildlife watching too - a very bold robin joined us the in the bottom of Diamond and was happy picking grubs from the disturbed earth there. Whilst pumping out water from the boats by the lime kilns, I've been watching the coots preening themselves on our preserved 'sunken' boats and a little wren is nesting in the eaves of the woodshed. Everything has woken up form Spring and we look forward to even warmer longer days - soon I'll be able to see the fish in the canal as the water clears and we get brighter sun shine.

If you are visiting BCLM  - don't forget to pop down to our boat dock and say hello to Becky.

See you soon

About Becky

Photo of Becky by the boat dock

Becky is one of our many costumed characters who meets & greets visitors to BCLM from all over the world.

Becky works on our boat dock and each week keeps a diary of all the new and interesting things that she discovers during her time there. She has decided it is a shame to keep all these fascinating finds to herself and would like to share with you regular updates of what happens on the BCLM boat dock.

Here is what Becky has to say about her 'Boats with Becky' Blog:

"I'm incredibly lucky to have such a wonderful view when I work. During the winter, people think that I must get cold, bored or lonely  - this couldn't be further from the truth. I have a great time at work and I can't wait to tell you about the things that happen on the dock each week. I get to enjoy traditional cooking, cleaning and watching the wildlife go by. I have regular visits from BCLM visitors, volunteers and staff, and experience warm weather, cold weather, peaceful days and exciting festivals. I will keep writing in my diary each day and take those unmissable photos so that I can share them on my new 'Boats with Becky' feature for you all to see & hear about the hidden beauty of BCLM docks"

If you are visiting BCLM  - don't forget to pop down to our boat dock and say hello to Becky.
