Willow Basket Weaving - Oval Basket: 2 Day Course

06 July - 07 July 2019

A two-day course where you will be making an oval shopping basket with a handle that you can take home.

Learn about the techniques and traditions of willow weaving and create your own unique willow basket to take home at the end of the day.

You will be guided step by step through each stage of the basket making process to create a basket using a variety of stripped and unstripped willow of different colours. You will learn how to prepare willow before making a basket and learn enough technique to make further baskets at home.

This course is suitable for beginners and improvers. You will be making an oval shopping basket.  More experienced participants can experiment with different weaves and include a handle in their design.

Course Leader:   Rachel Evans

Rachel has been making baskets for over 20 years, starting as a hobby, then setting up her business, Wheatcroftwillow in 2008. She was awarded a training grant from the Basketmakers Association to begin an apprenticeship with Adrian Charlton of Norfolk and has recently been awarded another training grant to learn how to make the cyntell, a welsh frame basket. She has been teaching basketmaking to beginners and intermediates for 6 years and enjoys sharing her skills and helping others to enjoy her craft.
