VE Day Celebrations

09 May 2015

Join costumed re-enactors for a Victorious Saturday of speeches, food and fun as part of nationwide VE Day Celebrations.

Marking the end of 70 years since WWII, we will celebrate as the whole of Europe once did in May 1945 – with laughter, dancing and traditional street celebrations.

Living history will help recreate the atmosphere of the day, with visitors able to meet ‘Winston Churchill’ and listen to his electrifying ‘Victory Speech’. Head on over to our Folkes’ Park and meet the US First Infantry in their tented camp where historic military vehicles and equipment will be on display. Costumed re-enactors and vintage cars will also stroll the cobbled streets.

Rationing was still in force so visitors will still be able to treat themselves to some tasty spam fritters from our very own fish and chip shop.  In keeping with the spirit of the day, get creative and join in our crafts to make your own bunting flag to go on display in our village as all come together to celebrate the ‘unbending resolve of the British nation’.
