Unlocking the Black Country

01 August - 31 August 2020

From Sat 1 Aug, we’m back open and we’m unlocking the Black Country!

Join us on a journey through time to (re)discover the remarkable story of this region and its impact on the world.

Across 26 acres and five historically-themed zones, you’ll meet fascinating characters, hear inspiring stories, and witness live demonstrations.  It's everything you know and love about the Museum, but we're bringing more  of the inside , outside!

  • Come and see our Marvellous Machines and learn how, from the Newcomen Engine to the racing car, engines put the world in motion..
  • On our Racecourse Colliery, discover how coal – the region’s Black Gold – unlocked the Industrial Revolution.  Don’t miss our explosive new show, Mining Madness.
  • It’s VE Day in our Victory Park.  Britain has just been unlocked from six years of war in Europe.  Come celebrate with our characters.
  • Head over the Canal Street Bridge to hear from our Village Voices.  There’s trouble and strife in our Edwardian village.  In the midst of the women chainmakers' strike, will the factory owners unlock their wallets and meet the strikers’ demands?
  •  Visit our Workshops of the World to hear the stories of the people who crossed borders to keep our industry thriving.

Download the Unlocking the Black Country map to help you navigate your way around our historically-themed zones.
