Introduction to Rag Rug Making: Hooking and Progging

30 May 2020

Learn about the traditional craft of rag-rug making. During the workshop you’ll learn two different techniques - hooking and progging.

At the end of the day you will take home your own unique creation and a wealth of ideas for making more rag rug designs at home.

Rag rugs were traditionally made from family items of clothing so feel free to bring along an old tee shirt or cotton top to recycle and help personalise your creation or use the rags which we provide.

About the course tutor: Jenni Stuart-Anderson

Before moving to Herefordshire Jenni worked as a freelance designer and lecturer at a London art college. Since 1987 she has taught rag rug making in England and Wales passing on traditional techniques of Hooking, Progging and Plaiting (Braiding).

In her work she combines techniques in traditional or contemporary designs for rugs, hangings and 3 dimensional works which she has exhibited widely. She is also a member of the Worcestershire Guild of Designer/Craftsmen and the Heritage Crafts Association. Her first book RAG RUG MAKING is now out of print (after 4 reprints) and her second book More Rag Rugs & Recycled Textile Projects was published in December 2011.
