This is a new date for this event.  It was originally scheduled for Sun 3 May, but was postponed as a result of the ongoing public health situation due to coronavirus (Covid-19). The new date for this event is  22 Aug.

Julie Tonkin, one of the UK's leading canal artists  will teach you the traditions of folk canal art. 

On this half day course you will learn the techniques to paint a traditional castles design. You will undertake practice artwork before painting your finished design on a piece of canal ware to take home.

Course Tutor: Julie Tonkin

Julie is a professional narrow boat decorator, painting narrow boats and traditional items of canal ware for boats. Julie has been teaching roses and castles painting for many years and has a keen interest in canal culture and customs.

Time: 10 am - 1pm

This event is a pre-ticketed event - UnChained passes are not valid for entry. We would like to remind you that tickets are non-transferable and we strongly advise that you do not purchase tickets from online third party sellers.

Please note should you wish to receive your tickets by post (rather than email) there will be a £3 admin fee. 


Time: 10.00am - 1.00pm 

Cost: £30 (inc VAT) per person includes a certificate of completion, use of materials and tools necessary to the course, car parking and a drinks voucher.

If you booked a ticket for the orginal date of this course, you have three options.  You can either:

1. Attend on the new date

If you’re able to attend the new date, you don’t need to do anything. You can simply arrive on the new date and your ticket will be scanned to give you entry.

2.  Request a refund

If you would like to obtain a refund on your ticket, please email our Sales & Ticketing team ( who will be able to process this for you. Please bear in mind that we may not able to meet our usual response times during this period, but we will get back to you.  Please note: you have up to two months before the new date of the event or course to let us know if you would like a refund.  Unfortunately, we will be unable to process any requests for refunds received after this date.

3. Or, support us by donating the cost of your ticket if you can’t make the new date
