Felt Pockets & Purses Workshop - CANCELLED

08 August 2020

We’ve reluctantly decided to cancel this event as a result of the ongoing public health situation due to coronavirus (Covid-19).

We’re sorry that we’ve had to take this decision and for any disappointment this may cause. Where possible, our priority is to postpone and re-schedule events. However, on this occasion, we’ve been unable to find an alternative date.

Event details:

Join us for a fun felt making workshop where you will learn how to manipulate soft merino wool to make strong pieces of felt, that you will then turn into beautiful seamless iPad case, purse, glasses case or small bag.

In this one-day course you will learn about wool and its properties, and experiment with colour and design. The course tutor, Penny Dixon will take you through the felt making process step by step, showing you how to handle lengths of wool and then use the specialist resist techniques required to lay it correctly in order to create a colourful seamless felted pouch. You will be able to take your wonderful creation home with you at the end of the day.

The course is suitable for beginners and improvers. Full instruction and guidance is given and those with previous felting experience will be able to develop their skills in creating this piece.

A plastic bag may be useful for taking a damp piece of work home!

Course Tutor: Penny Dixon

Penny is a qualified teacher with a degree in Fashion and Textiles, and a Masters in Art Health and Wellbeing. She is a member of the International Feltmaker’s Association and currently teaches at Mac Birmingham as well as other community venues. Penny also exhibits locally including the recent ‘Crafted for You' exhibition at Worcester City Art Gallery.  She is fascinated by the ancient craft of feltmaking and loves the way the fibres interconnect, likening it to the way groups of people work.  She loves how versatile the craft is and how textured, colourful pieces can be produced that are either delicate or hardwearing depending on the mood of the maker.
