Discover the Black Country

17 May - 27 June 2021

From Mon 17 May, we’m back open and we’m inviting you to step back in time to Discover the Black Country!

Across 26 acres and six historically-themed zones, you’ll meet fascinating characters, hear inspiring stories, and witness live demonstrations.  It's everything you know and love about the Museum, but we're bringing more  of the inside, outside!

  • See some of the Marvellous Machines from our historic transport collection and discover how Black Country vehicles helped to turn the wheels of industry and society.
  • Hear stories of the dangers of working underground 'in the Thick' as miners extracted 'Black Gold' from pits across the Black Country. See explosive demonstrations in our Mining Madness show at Racecourse Colliery.
  • Pop to Festival Park to step into 1951 as the Festival of Britain is in full swing! Explore our Festival exhibition which will showcase some of the popular dishes of the time as the nation began to emerge from the tight restrictions of rationing.
  • Listen to fascinating Village Voices as they share tales of industry as we celebrate the launch of the Titanic with its Hingley Anchor.
  • Visit the boatdock to see our new demonstration Building the Titanic. Discover the quite literal links between history’s most famous ocean liner and Black Country industry. (Weekends only)
  • And as if all that wasn’t enough, experience the Hearth & Homefront at St James’s School where we'll show visitors what it was like to go to school in the 1940s and you'll even be able to try their hand at popular wartime games.  Drill practice, anyone?

Plus, get your hands on some bostin' fittle from our range of takeaway food and drink outlets, including our famous fish and chips from Hobbs & Sons.

And, don't forget, if you buy a General Admission ticket, we'll automatically convert it to an UnChained Annual Pass on your visit - giving you free unlimited daytime return visits for 12 months!*

Pre-booking is essential - timeslots must be booked in advance of your visit. UnChained Passes are valid for entry - check our FAQs to find out more.
