1940s Weekend - cancelled

11 July - 12 July 2020

We’ve reluctantly decided to cancel this event as a result of the ongoing public health situation due to coronavirus (Covid-19).

We’re sorry that we’ve had to take this decision and for any disappointment this may cause. Where possible, our priority is to postpone and re-schedule events. However, on this occasion, we’ve been unable to find an alternative date.

Spend the weekend in wartime Britain at our highly popular 1940s Weekend.

Step back in time and immerse yourself into the sights and sounds of wartime Britain in one of the country's biggest and best 1940s events! For an entire weekend, the Museum will be transformed as vintage vehicles, 40s civilians and army personnel fill the streets.

Meet the Air Raid Wardens, Land Girls, Firemen, Soldiers and an array of other characters from the Black Country's wartime past. Rations and blackouts, air raids and drills; step back in time to see how the Black Country kept calm and carried on.

Explore an electric wartime atmosphere of entertainment, food and fashion. There will be a host of vintage entertainment including live music, wartime variety shows, austerity-busting 'make-do-and-mend' workshops, vintage stalls, street performers and more.

Important Information

1940s Weekend will take place on Sat 11 Jul – Sun 12 Jul between 10am-5pm.

Looking for tickets? To attend during the daytime part of our 1940s Weekend, you can either book general admission tickets online or simply show up and pay on the day. All full price general admission tickets come with a free UnChained Annual pass, which will give you 12 months’ unlimited daytime visits. If you already have an UnChained Annual Pass, you can use that to visit us for 1940s Weekend during the daytime free of charge. Please note that passes are not valid for the evening event, which is pre-book only. For more information on the Unchained Pass, please see our terms and conditions.

If you are planning to visit us for the whole weekend and the evening, there will be a break between the Saturday daytime event, ending at 5pm and the evening event, beginning at 6.30pm. Visitors will be asked to leave the Museum site for this hour and a half.

We welcome all visitors to take part and dress 1940s - please feel free to don your trilby or glam up with victory rolls as much as you like as dressing 1940s style is encouraged for this event! However, please respect that this is a homefront event - Allied Forces only.

Please note period firearms must be decommissioned and accompanied by the relevant deactivation paperwork. We reserve the right to refuse entry to visitors carrying period firearms without this paperwork.

Travel and Parking

This year's 1940s Weekend is going to be bigger and better than ever before! Therefore, we expect travel to the Museum to be busier than usual. We recommend that you check for travel updates prior to your journey to the Museum. Traffic England offers a live traffic update service and traffic alerts (external link). We will also post relevant updates on our main website and social media channels.

For visitors wishing to use public transport, Tipton is the nearest railway station and is a short walk from the Museum. Dudley bus station is also within walking distance of the Museum.

If you're travelling to the Museum by car, upon arrival you will be directed to park in either the Museum's main car park or our overflow car park, both located on Tipton Road, Dudley. Please note, there is a charge of £3.50 to park in the main car park. Please purchase a token from the machines in admissions.

Parking at the Museum is likely to be very busy during the weekend.  Details of alternative car parks in Dudley town centre can be found on the Parkopedia website (external link).  We will also be offering a Park and Ride service during the day time on Sat and Sun; details of which can be found below.

Please respect our neighbours and avoid parking in nearby residential areas.

Park and Ride

We have put on a free Park and Ride service for the weekend. Please follow the AA road signs to Dudley College Broadway car park; SAT NAV - DY1 4QS.

The shuttle bus will run every 15 minutes from 9:30am, between Dudley College and the Archives Building (next door to the Museum).  The last pick up from the Archives Building will be 17:45. Dudley College car park will close at 18:00.

Please note: If you have a ticket for the 1940s evening event on Sat 13 Jul, please remember to move your car to one of the main Museum car parks before 18:00.
