Make a Donation

Did you know that we have over 80,000 items in our collection ranging from the 1850s to the 1940s?

As we embark on our major development project   BCLM: Forging Ahead, we’re now looking to collect items up to the 1960s. We’re particularly interested in items which:

  • Have a strong connection with the Black Country
  • Are underrepresented in other local museums
  • Fill a gap in our existing collections

During Covid-19, special measures have been put in place to ensure the safety of both donors and museum staff.

As such, the following process for collecting objects will be followed.

Before bringing or sending an object to the museum you will first need to contact the Collections Care and Management Team via one of the following ways:

  • Email:
  • Post: Collections Care and Management Team, Black Country Living Museum, Tipton, Dudley ,DY1 4SQ

Please include in your letter or email a description and photo of the object(s), a brief history and current location of the object.

Once we have received all of the object information, it will be discussed by the Collections Care and Management Team. A member of the team will contact you to let you know the outcome.

If we would like to view your object, an appointment will be made for you to bring the object to the museum. Please note that agreement to view an object does not mean formal acceptance of an object into the collection as final confirmation can only be made following an assessment of the object in person.

Please note that any items that have not been approved via email or letter cannot be viewed.

The Museum currently has a list for items that are considered for donation, as well as a list of items which we do not currently require for our collection. Please see below links for more information.
