Visiting The Museum

Museum Entrance

Covering 26 acres of former industrial land, Black Country Living Museum is uniquely placed to tell the story of the creation of the world’s first industrial landscape.

Over fifty authentic shops, houses and workshops have been carefully reconstructed to preserve the character of the region when its manufacturers bought worldwide fame to Black Country Towns.

Take a trip on the tram to explore the canalside village, where you can meet and chat to the costumed characters. Explore the underground mine and experience the authentic sights, sounds, smells and tastes from the past.

Planning and making a visit to the Black Country Living Museum is easy. There is more than enough on site to keep you fully occupied for a whole day. If you do not have a whole day to spare, then turn to the map, where you can look at the various attractions to help you plan in advance what you particularly want to see. This way you can make the most of your day.

Check with the Events Page to see what special activities or displays there are, so as to be sure not to miss them.

Length of Visit

The Museum site covers 26 acres, so at least half a day is recommended, although a full day is recommended to do justice to the extensive attractions within the Museum.

A changing programme of demonstrations and events from metal working and glass cutting to sweetmaking ensures something to suit all tastes. Watch the silver screen flicker to life in the Limelight Cinema with silent films from the 1920s. Marvel over vehicles from the golden age of motoring and explore the underground mine.

No dogs allowed on site except guide dogs

During inclement weather there is plenty to see inside the many relocated buildings and underground in the mine. Come prepared with a waterproof and umbrella if wet weather is forecast.

In the colder winter months wear warm clothing, and appropriate footwear is recommended at all times.
