Supporting the Museum

Education 2

For more than thirty years The Black Country Living Museum Trust – an educational charity – has been conserving and celebrating the buildings, traditions and people which gave the world its first industrial landscape. Through our collections and historically authentic exhibits we bring the story of the Black Country to life so that more than 300,000 visitors a year can experience and learn about the area's history as 'the workshop of the world' and its international significance.

The Museum is a registered charity and an independent, not-for-profit organisation: we don't rely heavily on public funds but must instead raise more than 90% of our funds through earned income and fundraising activities. We have exciting plans for the future but to pursue these and maintain and develop the many things that already make our Museum special, it's vital that we seek the generous support of charitable trusts, businesses and individuals.

Currently we're raising funds to renovate the Newcomen steam engine – the only full-sized working replica of the world's first successful steam-powered engine, which when 'in steam' is one of the Museum's most impressive sights. 2012 sees the 300th anniversary of this important invention and £40,000 of work is needed so that our engine is in full working order for its celebrations and beyond.

We invite you to visit us and, if you wish, to support us further through a donation, leaving a gift in your will, sponsoring a project or becoming a volunteer. Your support will help write the next chapter of our own Black Country story.

Thank you.

Corporate Support

Innovation, entrepreneurial spirit and manufacturing prowess made the Black Country 'the workshop of the world' and the Museum is keen to work in partnership with today's businesses too.

A number of sponsorship opportunities exist at the Museum, ranging from our learning programmes for families and school groups right the way through to large-scale annual events or exhibits such as the Newcomen steam engine.

Supporting our work through in-kind donations of skills or materials or through employee volunteering is also welcomed and hugely valuable to us. Contact the Development department to find out more.
