We're Celebrating Deaf Awareness Week

Battle Lines at BCLM

22 April 2016

We're celebrating Deaf Awareness Week by hosting a British Sign Language Film Festival between Tue 3 – Sat 7 May!

We'll be screening a range of traditional and popular films twice a day, and they'll all be suitable for deaf or hard of hearing audiences.  Each film will be supported by a qualified British Sign Language interpreter and subtitles. Films will include classic black and white movies, specialist deaf films and modern releases.  A while ago, we had a short drama about being deaf during WW1 'Battle Lines' (pictured above) filmed right here at the Museum  - so we'll be showing that, too!

Deaf Awareness Week is a unique campaign where organisations come together to develop new projects promoting their own work within the broad spectrum of deafness. Hearing loss affects 10 million people, which is one in six of the UK’s population! People confronting deafness and hearing loss face challenges every day that impact their quality of life – that includes reduced access to education and entertainment.

Admission to the British Sign Language Festival is free of charge however booking is essential. Please note that there will still be a charge for admission into the Museum.
