First Deaf Awareness Day at BCLM

In the run up to Deaf Awareness Week 2017, today we celebrated our first ever Deaf Awareness Day at the Museum

The theme for this years’ week (15 – 21 May 2017) is ‘Celebrations’ – and there was plenty of that as we put on extra activities and entertainment to mark the occasion. There were a range of talks, by John Hay, board member, British Deaf History Society, entertainment and workshops  including lip reading taster sessions, tours around the Museum, ‘fingerspelling’ workshops, dancing and drama and to top it all off...an outstanding performance from children aged 4-10 from Ashwood Park Primary School & Hargate Primary School as they raised awareness through their signing choir which can be seen on the videos below.
