Tram Rides
There were many different ways of getting about in the Black Country and we have some excellent examples in our transport collection, which help you explore the Museum.
The 3'6” gauge tramway runs from the depot outside the Entrance Building to the School by the Museum village. The tram fleet comprises 3 vehicles, 2 single-deck trams of c1920 and a 1909 double-deck open-topper from Wolverhampton.
The tramway service is supplemented on Sundays by electric trolleybuses which also use overhead wires to supply the power but run on rubber tyres on the road. Electric trolleybuses first appeared in Wolverhampton in 1927 and the volunteer Transport Group operates the two Museum vehicles and occasionally vehicles from other preservation organisations.
Electric trolley-buses first appeared in Wolverhampton in 1927. We operate two such vehicles around the site, the one was built in 1946 for Wolverhampton Corporation and the other in 1955 for Walsall's fleet.
