06 May 2017

Speech and song, story and verse, write it down, tell them from memory or off the cuff – everything and everyone welcome.

Following in the oral tradition of the Black Country, we want to share and preserve our stories. Come and hear our stories and share some of yours, there will be 4 sessions over the year with a theme for each session, including music, performance and object handling.

Theme for Sat 6 May:  May Daze and Maypoles (Bank Holidays and traditional springs)

Exploring stories of how we spent Mayday, Bank Holidays, and other celebration days.

“I remember listening to someone talking about how the local people used to go up to Dudley Castle on a Bank holiday with a bottle of beer and have skipping competitions. They then went on to lament the fencing off of the castle from the people of the town.” (Dave Reeves)

Fireside Tales will be led by Dave Reeves, the Museum Poet in Residence
