Learn about the history of the craft while developing a fantastic piece to take home.

This two hour session is a perfect opportunity to work together as a family using an exciting and very old technique - feltmaking. You  will be taken through the feltmaking process step by step and create a fantastic picture piece along the theme of bugs and butterflies.

Work together and  learn how to handle lengths of wool and then use the specialist techniques required to lay it correctly in order to make a flat piece of felt. Children and parents will be able to explore colours, texture and design through the use of textiles.    Participants can choose to work together on a project as a family or work on their own individual projects alongside each other. Suitable for all ages from 6+

Course Tutor: Penny Dixon

Penny is a qualified teacher with a degree in Fashion and Textiles, and a Masters in Art Health and Wellbeing. She is a member of the International Feltmakers Association and currently teaches at Mac Birmingham as well as other community venues. Penny also exhibits locally including the recent ‘Crafted for You' exhibition at Worcester City Art Gallery.  She is fascinated by the ancient craft of feltmaking and loves the way the fibres interconnect, likening it to the way groups of people work.  She loves how versatile the craft is and how textured, colourful pieces can be produced that are either delicate or hardwearing depending on the mood of the maker.
